Harmony joined the Owen County Association in September of 1884. It was constituted in the home of Samuel Boone, one of our first members. Some say he was the nephew of the celebrated Daniel Boone. We haven’t been able to confirm this report. Later they built a structure 40x50 feet and entirely free of debt. Since that time there has been some 2000 members recorded into Harmony. On Sunday December 7, 1941 shortly after church services the building burned down. It was said that day the pastor resigned, and also that was the day of the Pearl Harbor Invasion. We look back in the records and see the hard times and see how easy it could have been to just close the doors. We are thankful for our forefathers having such convictions to be strong in their faith and keeping the doors open.
Meet our Pastor Bob and his wife Beverly. We are very proud to say they have been with us since August 1993. Bob graduated seminary in Michigan. Beverly plays the piano and has a childrens church class during morning services.
We believe the Bible has revealed God to be one eternal, self-existing, Triune God existing in three persons. A co-equal Trinity: The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost working together to fulfill the divine will. We believe the nature and character of God to be holy, omnipotent, omniscient, that he is forever just and merciful, that he is “altogether righteous” and what he says he is able to do.
We believe the Church is the Body of Christ. A called out assembly supernaturally charged by the spirit of God to do his work and to fulfill his will. It is God’s ordained institute of worship and service and is to be centered on the preaching and teaching of his word. It is an autonomous Body with Christ as its only head.
We believe the human race is a fallen race that sin has corrupted man and alienated him from his creator. Therefore, man is under the condemnation of God, subject to the “wages of sin” (death and eternal damnation). We believe God in his Love has provided one means of redemption to all mankind through the divine son, it is the gospel of Jesus Christ given by grace and received by faith. 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Bible. That it is our final authority and is able to “Thoroughly Furnish” Gods people “unto all good works” 2 Timothy 3:16. We believe it to be without error or contradiction given to us by God through the power of the Holy Spirit as communicated through Holy Men of God.
